Far Infrared Sauna
“Give me a chance to create fever, and I will cure any disease”
Greek physician, Parmenides
For centuries, cultures around the world have recognized the therapeutic value of heating the body for healing and improved vitality. Drawing upon the knowledge of ancient techniques to maintain good health; methods to induce sweating have been well documented in their use to provide relief from dis-ease and for health enhancement benefits. This traditional wisdom has certainly stood the test of time and is now coupled with advanced technology to create the Far Infrared Sauna. Infrared sauna therapy is specifically designed to create a comfortable, deep, penetrating heat thereby leading to an increase in core body temperature, a raise in metabolism and subsequent profuse sweating.
One of the most recognized benefits of Far Infrared Sauna is the ability to assist in detoxification. Stress, environmental toxins, chemicals, xenoestrogens, airborne pollutants, poor dietary and exercise habits all affect our health via the deposition of toxic debris in our system. Using the far infrared sauna helps to purify our cells, specifically the cells inside our fat where our body stores waste and harmful toxins, such as cholesterol and heavy metals. Infrared sauna therapy cleanses and detoxifies your body from the inside out.
Commonly Asked Questions-
“How often can one use the Far infrared sauna?”
Far infrared sauna is considered to be an intense form of a whole body workout. Thus it may be necessary for those not in peak condition to gradually build up tolerance.
For those who are physically fit and relatively healthy a 30 minute initial sauna session will be preferred and a sauna session will feel refreshing, cleansing and purifying.
Once an individual has become conditioned to the heat, individuals with a sluggish metabolism and those desiring weight loss enhancement can take saunas up to 2 times daily, once in the morning and once in the later day.
After the body becomes conditioned to being in the sauna, many people enjoy daily 30 minute sauna sessions. Sauna sessions are also excellent during times of cleansing, during detoxification programs and to support any health program focused on improving or maintaining optimal health.
Most individuals leave the sauna session feeling refreshed, invigorated and revitalized.
“Who can use a Far infrared sauna?”
Almost anyone can use a far infrared sauna, with just a few exceptions, however if one has a specific health condition it is important to consult your primary care provider prior to use. Hemophiliacs and women who are pregnant or who might be pregnant are NOT advised to use the sauna. Individuals with MS and Lupus may find benefit from the sauna at a lower temperature. See below for contraindications to Sauna use:

“Who should not use an infrared sauna?”
With just a few exceptions, saunas are a safe and very enjoyable treatment for all people of all ages. Although anyone with specific health conditions should consult their primary health care provider prior to use. We recommend that you DO NOT attempt to self-treat any disease with an Infrared Sauna. If you have a disease, be certain to consult with your primary-care provider before using an Infrared Sauna.
In all situations, hydration is a requirement for sauna use.
There are some circumstances which sauna sessions should not be used, they include:
- Do not use during pregnancy or if you think you might be pregnant
- Diseases associated with a reduced ability to sweat
- Hemophiliacs or anyone who is predisposed to bleeding
- Anyone with insensitivity to heat
- Acute Joint Injury: If you have a recent (acute) joint injury, it should not be heated for the first 48 hours after an injury or until the hot and swollen symptoms subside. If you have a joint or joints that are chronically hot and swollen, these joints may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind. Vigorous heating is strictly contra-indicated in cases of enclosed infections be they dental, in joints or in any other tissues.
- Implants: Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect Far-infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system; nevertheless you should consult your surgeon prior to using an Infrared Sauna. Certainly, the usage of an Infrared Sauna must be discontinued if you experience pain near any such implants. Silicone does absorb Far-infrared energy. Implanted silicone or silicone prostheses for nose or ear replacements may be warmed by the Far-infrared waves. Since silicone melts at over 200°C (392°F), it should not be adversely affected by the usage of an Infrared Sauna. It is still advised that you check with your surgeon and possibly a representative from the implant manufacturer to be certain.
“What is Far infrared heat?”
Far infrared heat, also known as radiant heat, is a part of the sun's invisible spectrum, creating a natural, safe energy that
heats objects directly without having to heat the air in
between. The infrared segment of the energy spectrum occurs just below or “infra” to red light. This band of light is therefore not visible to human eyes but can be seen with special cameras and night vision equipment. We can, however, feel this type of energy, which we perceive as a gentle heat. For example, infrared heaters are used by hospitals to warm premature infants.
The far infrared heat is, in fact, a necessary form of energy that all living things require for optimum health. If we don't receive enough far infrared light from the sun, we become ill and depressed. All life forms on this planet; animals, plants and humans, need this abundant far infrared light to be completely tranquil, calm, and healthy. The radiant heat from the sun surrounds us and penetrates deeply into our joints, muscles and tissues, speeding up oxygen flow and increasing circulation.
All humans send and receive far infrared waves. The range of waves (sometimes called Vital Rays) generated by the human body are within the range of 6 to 20 microns. The optimal micron output range is between 7 and 14 microns, which is very close to the resonant frequency of a water molecule. This similarity makes sense since our bodies are almost 70% water. This range appears to have special regenerative effects on the body.
Far Infrared Sauna allows for optimal performance well within this vital wave range of 7 to 14 microns, with a good portion of wavelengths occurring at 9.4 microns--which is the frequency at which a water molecule resonates or vibrates. This vibration has been found to help release cellular toxins, heavy metals and other toxic gases such as sulfur and formaldehyde from fat cells. The far-infrared light used in infrared saunas can penetrate human tissue up to three inches deep to bring numerous health benefits including improved detoxification, circulation, pain relief and increased peripheral blood flow.
One of the most documented benefits is the ability to assist with whole body detoxification. Each day we encounter numerous toxins from the environment, pesticides, food additives, chemical pollutants and drugs. When the body cannot expel these chemicals, they are stored, and surrounded by water molecules and fat for additional protection. Accumulation of toxins in the body result in lowered health and vitality. The far infrared wave resonance between 7-14 microns create vibrations within water molecules, breaking the bonds which hold stored toxins, allowing for encapsulated gases and other toxic material to be released. Increased sweating can assist our body in removing these agents. Up to 20% of sweat from a far-infrared sauna session consists of toxins and waste matter, versus only about 3% from a regular hot rock or steam sauna.
“Are infrared waves safe?”
Yes far infrared rays are entirely safe.
Infrared heat, also known as radiant heat, is a natural, safe energy that
heats objects directly without having to heat the air in
between. The infrared segment of the energy spectrum occurs just below or “infra” to visible light (with tens of thousands of microns difference between each spectrum of light wave). Even though our body naturally emits far infrared waves, this band of energy is not visible to the human eye, we can, however,
feel this type of energy as a gentle thermal heat.
Most of the suns heat is emitted in infrared light, which is completely
unrelated to the harmful UV light (ultraviolet rays) also present from the sun, which can lead to sunburn and skin damage. Infrared light is part of the Sun's invisible spectrum and one of the characteristics of far infrared light is the ability to easily penetrate human tissue. When this happens, a natural resonance is created which has many health benefits. Remember the last time you were sunbathing with sunscreen? Were you still hot? Of course you were because the sunscreen only stops the harmful UV (Ultraviolet) light from hitting your skin. When the sun goes behind a cloud we immediately feel cool due to the infrared rays being blocked by the cloud. This heat is what penetrates your skin, giving you that wonderful natural warmth from the sun. Unlike sunbathing, you can be exposed to far infrared heat for hours and it will never cause your skin to burn.
Far infrared heat is completely healthy and safe for all living things. In fact, it is so safe that it is used in hospital maternity wards to warm newborn infants. Far infrared rays have been thoroughly researched and have been used in medical practices and spas throughout Europe for many years. Sports medicine uses infrared light to help to speed up healing of sprains and strains. NASA research has also determined that infrared rays are the best way for astronauts to maintain cardiovascular fitness on long space flights.
“What is the difference between an infrared sauna compared to a traditional hot steam sauna?”
Many people find the high temperatures inside a traditional hot rock sauna or steam room intolerable. Conventional hot rock/steam heat saunas heat the air first with steam, (and then heat the body) which can lead to unbearably hot conditions and causes sweating only at the
surface of the skin. There is no need for the hot air and steam created by a traditional steam sauna that is notorious for causing breathing difficulties and can trigger respiratory problems and dizziness.
In comparison, a far infrared sauna uses soothing, dry, far infrared heat that is well ventilated and extremely comfortable and relaxing, leaving the user feeling cleansed and refreshed. Infrared heat is known as
radiant heat, meaning it gently warms the body directly, without warming the air. The far infrared sauna operates at a
significantly cooler and comfortable air temperature range of 110° to 140°F (versus 180° to 300°F in a conventional sauna). Research has shown that even though the Far Infrared Sauna operates at a lower temperature, it is able to produce a more powerful detoxification effect.
Infrared only expends 20% of its energy on heating the air – the remaining 80% of its energy goes directly to warming the body, creating a deep penetration of radiant heat, raising the body’s core body temperature, resulting in 3 times the perspiration (than a traditional sauna) and a far deeper stimulation of the internal organs and tissues to release stored fat, acid waste and fat soluble toxins. Because infrared waves penetrate into the body tissue and heat from within, one begins sweating in an infrared sauna almost immediately.
“What about different qualities of Far infrared saunas?”
There are many different grades and qualities of saunas on the market. We use the ONLY sauna in which clinical trials have been conducted to reveal the health enhancing properties with regular sauna use.
The two main types of infrared heaters are ceramic heaters and carbon heaters. Our sauna uses a special Solocarbon® heater and is one of the few organic carbon heated saunas on the market, resulting in 10 x more heat coverage. One of the challenges with ceramic heaters is only a small surface area is heated; resulting in greater temperature variance in the sauna and lots of hot and cold areas. The surface area heated from the special Solocarbon® heater is much greater; providing continuous heat and evenly distributed far infrared waves across your body.
For optimal health, it is ideal to keep the intake of environmental toxins to a minimum. Our sauna is one of the most toxic free saunas on the market, (with a veneer free surface, water based non-toxic glue, EMF shielding on all wires and tempered glass instead of the use of plastic).
“What are the rates for sauna sessions?”
We have a relaxing far infrared sauna room with rates available for an individual treatment; or we have numerous 30 minute wellness packages available to take advantage of greater savings with regular sauna use.
Single sessions are priced at $16 plus GST for 15 minutes and $ 26 plus GST for 30 minutes.

“How does one prepare for a sauna session?”
Dry skin brushing at home, prior to a sauna session can assist in deeper cleansing.
Be prepared to sweat
Leave your skin free from lotions, makeup and creams which will hinder the cleansing process.
Ensure you are properly hydrated.
Most people prefer to bring 2 clean towels and a stainless steel drinking bottle or we can supply these items for you for a small charge.
Additional Tips to Remember…
Sometimes traces and by-products of prescription medications we use are stored in fat cells. Some people say we also have past memories and emotions locked within in our bodies cells. As the infrared light penetrates your body and stirs up the cellular vibration, you might experience old emotions or taste old medication. This is not abnormal and is in-fact desired – to remove the stuff still in your body that should not be there.
“What do I do after the sauna session?”
After you have completed the sauna session, return home and take a warm to cool shower to remove sweat and toxins from your skin. If possible, avoid putting soap and especially lotion on your skin, which will only clog the pores that were just cleansed. A cold water rinse will close up your pores quickly and leave your skin feeling incredibly and naturally smooth.
You might feel the need to relax before getting back to your day. Listen to your body. A Far infrared sauna session is very relaxing and rejuvenating, so take time to savor the calming and invigorating feelings for the duration of the day.
