Looking Past the Plate: Primary food and authentic nourishment
What in your life truly nourishes you? Sometimes we are fed not by food but by the energy in our lives. We hunger for play, fun, touch, romance, achievement, love, art, music, success, self-expression, excitement, adventure, and spirituality, and many other things...."Primary food" is more than what is on your plate, and when it is balanced and satiating, your life feeds you, making what you eat secondary. While modern nutrition, focusing on macro- and micro-nutrients, is a vital component of health and well-being, it is really only one source of nourishment. Healthy relationships, enjoyable physical activity, a fulfilling career, and a spiritual practice can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life.

Everyday Zen: Groundedness through food, movement, and breath Taught by Melissa Furneaux, BSc., HHC, RHN – Holistic Health Counselor, Registered Holistic Nutritionist
How might you sustain yourself on shaky ground? In the day to day hustle and bustle of our over-scheduled city lives, feelings of stress and anxiety have been accepted by many as the norm....a side-effect of our modern lifestyle. While there may be some truth in this, we also have a choice. if we choose to engage our body and provide it with appropriate foods, we will maintain an energetic centeredness which, over time, allows us to develop the courage and strength to live each moment as our authentic selves. This class will focus on simple tips, tools, and exercises we can incorporate into our daily lives that will allow us to approach each day with a sense of inner calm and connectedness to the earth. We will introduce the concept of food energetics, which foods we should be eating to maintain balance, and foods that will quickly realign us when we are feeling scattered. This will be an active class with gentle movement, including simple exercises, yoga postures, and breath work. Please wear comfortable clothing.

Sustain Your Soul Creativity Buffet
~ Taught by Melissa Furneaux, BSc., HHC, RHN – Holistic Health Counselor, Registered Holistic Nutritionist
When was the last time you allowed yourself to be totally immersed in the experience of something, without concern for what the final product or end result will be? Whether or not you perceive yourself as "creative," this evening is not about creating masterpieces....it is about creating connections, and giving ourselves permission to flourish in our own creative process. The intent will be to cultivate an open and supportive space in which we can truly connect with those around us, while also exploring our own individual projects in whatever form they might take. We will begin the evening with a light-hearted group discussion on the topic of "Creativity as Nourishment," followed by a self-determined amount of "play time" (leave when you feel complete, or stay until 9pm). There is no pressure to produce....only to be present. You may spend the entire evening immersed in the wonders of a dress-up bin, or you may bounce around from writing to painting to sewing to dancing to drawing and back again. There is no wrong answer.
What inspires you in this moment?
Date: Thursday, November 8th
Time: 6-9pm
Fee: By Donation (all supplies included)

Maitri: A Holistic Course in Weight-loss and Self-Love
~Taught by Melissa Furneaux, BSc., HHC, RHN – Holistic Health Counselor, Registered Holistic Nutritionist
Maitri (pronounced "my-tree") is a Sanskrit word that may be loosely translated as "unconditional friendship with oneself." You may not think of love in relation to weight loss, but they are, in fact, very intimately connected.
The truth is that diets don't work, and 95% of dieters regain the weight they've lost, and then some. One of the major problems with most popular diets is that they only address the quantity of food, rather than an individual's relationship with food. When a body is accumulating or holding on to excess weight, the reason may be physical, emotional, or spiritual in nature. The solution is not going to come from a best-selling book, a website, or any other external source. Whether you like it or not, the answer is within you.
A holistic approach to weight loss is simple and effective. By making small, realistic adjustments over time, you create deeper, sustainable change. Being part of a small, intimate group creates a safe and nurturing environment to help ensure your success. In this course we will address body, mind, and spirit. We will discuss the physical components of weight loss, including proper nutrition and enjoyable physical activity, as well as non-physical factors that may be holding you back or blocking your success. Our focus will be one of balance as opposed to rigid restrictions, and baby steps are encouraged over dramatic changes. On your journey, no victory is too small to celebrate.
Embracing "Unconditional friendship" with oneself is no simple task....it requires patience, courage, compassion, humour, discipline, honesty, and persistence. Perhaps most importantly, it requires that we fully accept responsibility for our lives and our actions, and a willingness to let go of what is no longer serving us and create what we truly desire for ourselves and our lives. When we love and accept who we currently are, it allows us to love and accept others as they are, bringing more joy into our lives and transforming a life based in fear to one grounded in love
How might your life be different if you loved yourself unconditionally?
